This is arguably one of the most ambitious projects our team has ever undertaken. Synthesizing this intermediate required an enormous amount of time and effort, especially considering war impact on conditions of our work.
Why are we selling the intermediate instead of the final Fosigotifator?
We deliberately chose not to perform the last two stages of the synthesis. These steps do not affect the bioactivity of the final compound – they only influence its water solubility.
However, completing them is economically impractical:
- the final two steps each have a yield of about 50%;
- the separation of the chiral alcohol via chiral HPLC gives another ~50% yield;
- considering the starting material costs around $900 per gram, the combined yields (0.5 × 0.5 × 0.5) mean that 1 gram of the intermediate produces about 0.125 g of Fosigotifator;
- once you add labor, flash chromatography of the final compound, and chiral chromatography to separate the isomers, the final price would increase by 10-12×.
Because of this, routine production of the final Fosigotifator is not economically viable.
